In the framework of the exhibition “état bruit”, the installation “Repeat After Me II” highlights the concept of the “collective artwork” that lies at the heart of Open Group’s practice.
.
The works of this Ukrainian artist collective are characterised by an “open situation”, that is, an experimental exploration of the interaction between people and specific spaces. The installation “Repeat After Me II” highlights the defining characteristics of Open Group’s practice. The artists have chosen to present two similar films featuring Ukrainian refugees who recreate, from memory, the haunting sounds of war. This creates a narrative that highlights the sinister continuity of the conflict.
A discussion between artists Anton Varga (in person) and Pavlo Kovach (via video conference from Ukraine), as well as Marta Cziz (curator) and Charles Wennig (curator), will explore Open Group’s practice and offer perspectives for raising public awareness of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
