CATS is most probably the world’s most magical musical. Both adults and children are fascinated when the Jellicle cats join their paws at the silvery shimmering scrapyard for their annual cat ball: In the moonlight, cunning and charming characters such as Mr Mistoffelees, beautiful Victoria or evil Macavity compete for the gift of a second life during a magical night. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s melodies are unmatched, the choreography’s breath-taking and easily combines catlike movements with human traits. The scenery and the unique costume design are fantastic – and there’s one of the most emotional, deeply touching moments in the history of musicals: the world hit “Memory” by cat diva Grizabella.
CATS has been an unabated success story since its premiere in London back in 1981. The Masterpiece won a Laurence Olivier Award, seven Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards, and is one of the longest-running musicals ever. After the return of this fantastic masterpiece to West End, the revival is now thrilling New York’s Broadway.
